You are now looking at a very unique sculpture. The medium consists of a 52 pound Campo del Cielo meteorite. It fell about 5,000 years ago and the meteorite itself could be over 4.5 Billion years old. Also used is a piece of lighting struck American Black Walnut root on a Verde granite base. The meteorite is from Argentina and was originally part of the Robert Haag collection. The name of the find was the Campo del Cielo(field of the sky or heaven), hence a very fitting name for the location of a meteorite. The Indians believed that the iron fell from the heavens and rightly so.It is carved so that there were only a few hints that it was indeed carved and not totally natural. The piece is called “Heaven on Earth” and was inspired by a dream the Artist J.F. Anderson once had and he uses the wood in place of the trailing fireball.
